The Meeting Presidents of Amazon Countries, although being not one of the regular instances of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty, is a crucial forum to the dialogue about mutual interests, exchange opinions on issues that affect this broad and important area, and reach consensus on actions aimed at harmoniously developing the region, through joint policies and strategies.
For such purposes, the Heads of State have met, up to this date, twice. The First Meeting of Presidents of Amazon Countries was held in Manaus, Brazil, on 06 May 1989, and the Second Meeting took place also in Manaus, on 10 and 11 February 1992, as preparation to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
